{"id":200226,"date":"2008-10-02T11:04:51","date_gmt":"2008-10-02T11:04:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/europeanbelarus.org\/?p=200226"},"modified":"2021-05-08T19:04:42","modified_gmt":"2021-05-08T16:04:42","slug":"200226","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/europeanbelarus.org\/en\/2008\/10\/02\/200226.html","title":{"rendered":"Europe won\u2019t lift sanctions against Belarusian regime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Janusz Onyszkiewicz, member of the European Parliament, former minister of defence of Poland and one of the Solidarity movement leaders, told in an interview to Polskie Radio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe draft resolution contains a suggestion not to lift sanctions against the Belarusian and not to regard the \u201celections\u201d as an insignificant event. We don\u2019t want to conduct \u201cnothing happened\u201d policy and continue our relations with Belarus. We shouldn\u2019t turn a blind eye to what Lukashenka is doing. If we shut eyes to how the \u201cparliamentary elections \u201cwere held, it would be a bad step of Europe. The draft will be heard on October 8,\u201d Janusz Onyszkiewicz said.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cparliamentary elections\u201d in Belarus were held on September 28. 264 candidates contested 110 seats in the\u201dparliament\u201d. About 100 opposition candidates failed to get to the \u201chouse of representatives\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The OSCE\/ODIHR election observing mission didn\u2019t recognise the \u201cparliamentary elections\u201d in Belarus free and democratic. OSCE observers noted \u201cbad or very bad\u201d process of vote count in 50 per cent of the cases. 40 per cent of the observers weren\u2019t able to monitor the vote counting in full. The elections ultimately fell short of OSCE standards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Parliament will soon consider a draft resolution on relations with Belarus.
