Actions demanding to release political prisoners immediately took place in Minsk

Actions of solidarity with political prisoners Syarhei Parsyukevich, Andrei Kim and Alyaksandr Kazulin as well as with others convicted oppositionists at the trial of 14 were held yesterday in Minsk by activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus.”

Portraits of political prisoners were pasted up in the Minsk center – on Nyamiha Street, near the Kamarouski market and Academy of Sciences metro station. Leaflets calling to release prisoners of conscience were also spread.

Entrepreneurs’ leader Syarhei Parsyukevich was sentenced yesterday to two and a half years of imprisonment, the day before youth leader Andrei Kim was sentenced to one and a half year of imprisonment, and 9 other people were sentenced to correctional labour. Alyaksandr Kazulin, former candidate for presidency in Belarus, has been in prison since 25 March 2006.
